Murder, War and Poetry in Kiltul!agh/Killimordaly from 1500 to 1900.

Aspects of family, social, church and school history of the Parish of Kiltullagh/Killimordaly are very well documented in a recently published book. The parish is one of the few areas in the country for which fragments of the l82l census records exist. These are published in a book along with the Tithe Applotment and Griffith Valuation records. The family history case studies in the book, combined with these records make this a goldmine for anybody interested in family history in the area. If your family history is complete, then you can delve into the history of the Dunsandle Daly, D’Arcy or Trench families, all of whom had a large influence on the local population.

Other interesting items include the effect of the Land War on the area, the murder of John Henry Blake (Lord Clanricarde’s agent), some folklore stories and poems, the history of the schools (with photographs), churches and Esker Monastery. In all, this is a very well researched publication and its presentation in a series of articles makes it very readable.

It will be of great interest to those interested in local, family or social history.
