If you want to learn archery, get lost in the maze or even dress up in Mediaeval costume, then Visit us!

We are coming to the end of our 2002 school tour season which has been an unprecedented success with national and secondary schools visiting from Kildare, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Offaly, Tipperary, Westmeath, Roscommon and of course Galway. All the schools had an opportunity to visit the Heritage Centre, Dominican Priory and Athenry Castle as well as playing in our new medieval activities garden which has a maze, plague skittles, horseshoe throwing and an all-weather archery area. Everyone, teachers included, enjoyed the opportunity to dress-up in medieval costume and have their photograph taken as a souvenir of their visit.

Family fun

For the summer months the heritage centre will be running a full schedule of family activities. Fully supervised activities will include archery lessons and competitions, skittles, horseshoe throwing and other medieval games, art and puppetry workshops, dress up in medieval clothes, see authentic medieval weaponry in addition to the regular activities in the centre. Great fun for all age groups; ideal for families on holidays, staying in the area or a morning’s diversion for children and families living in and around Athenry.

Children can attend these activities with or without their parents, as trained staff will be supervising at all times.

For more information or details please call to the Heritage Centre or phone 09-844661.
