Problem Skin

There are few people who have not woken up to the nightmare that is the ‘spot’. However, those who suffer the solitary blemish from time to time are the lucky ones, there are many people out there who suffer from problem skin.

Skin eruptions are caused by over active sebum production, which blocks the pores and allows bacteria the perfect environment to grow. The result – Blackheads, Whiteheads and Spots.

So, what can you do about it. Firstly, exfoliation is important. This removes the dead skin cells covering the clogged pores and spots allowing the problem to be treated. Next the bacteria causing the problem needs to be treated. Benzoyl peroxide and topical antibiotics are the most effective agents used to combat the bacteria that cause spots.

Most moisturisers for problem/oily skin contain vitamin A, which improves production of collagen and elastin, helping to reduce scaring and improve healing of the skins surface.

To help prevent skin problems:

Always keep skin really clean. Cleanse, tone and moisture every morning and evening.

Exfoliate skin regularly 2-3 times a week.

Try not pick at spots or touch your face too much as this adds bacteria to the face.

Always, always, remove make-up at night, as it blocks pores and prevents skin from breathing.

A proper skin care regime at home is a must to achieve a better skin complexion.

Consult your therapist about your skin needs, worries and your expectations from your professional treatment in the salon and skin care routine at home.
