Cullairbaun Community House – Summer 2005

A new Community house is being set up at Cullairbaun Estate in Athenry to facilitate local people in the development of their estate.

The house was allocated by Galway County Council to the community to develop resources for people living in Cullairbaun to improve and develop their estate. Athenry Area Development Company has taken responsibility for management of the house. A steering group consisting of Athenry Area Development Company, Galway Rural Development Association, Foróige, local residents, representatives from the Western Health Executive, Galway County Council and people involved in the education sector, are involved, A project co-ordinator was appointed in April 2005 to assist with the setting up of the house and to carry out an investigation into the specific needs of the community. The group hope to provide programmes which will cater for the whole community such as, homework clubs and after schools’ clubs for children aged 4-12 years, activities for youth and social and recreational programmes for older people, groups for men, women and other interested groups. It is hoped that the house will open in late September 2005.
