The ongoing physical development of Athenry is to be welcomed, but it is important that this is matched with the provision of good community amenities and proper planning.
We need good access roads into Athenry, safe pedestrian access on dangerous railway bridges and new amenity areas such as riverside walks and other green spaces. It is crucial that we have a strong lobby within
Galway County Council to ensure that Athenry has a voice in decisions that affect our future. Here at the Athenry Development Company we are continuing to work hard on your behalf. The ADC is a facilitation agency for community development and enterprise and is a voluntary organisation. An update of our recent activities, as well as news of our plans for an ET Centre in Athenry is highlighted further on in the Journal.
Support from the local community is crucial and we would ask you to demonstrate a commitment to the continued development of the Athenry community by becoming a member of the organisation.
The three key elements of good community development are: strong political representation, a pro-active development agency and a supportive community. Here in Athenry we have the opportunity to demonstrate over the coming months that we have all three in place. lt is up to all of us to make sure that we don’t let this chance slip by.
