Welcome to the relaunch of the new look Athenry Journal. Our aim has been to bring a fresh, contemporary style to the magazine whilst retaining all those features that we know you enjoyed from previous issues, news and views from Athenry today as well as articles about our town’s heritage and history.

It is perhaps appropriate that the restyled journal is published now, as the town itself is undergoing a lot of change and development. New development is often a positive sign of a community in growth and of economic well being.

However, questions have been asked about the current spate of development in Athenry. ls the development appropriate and sympathetic to Athenry as a heritage town. Does it fit in with the town’s ethos, or is it development for development’s sake, is it planning gone mad?

We don’t have the answers; this is a debate that the townspeople of Athenry need to be having, with all the parties concerned. What ADC can do is offer the pages of this journal as a forum for that, so why not contact us with your views on this subject, one that is so important for the future of our town.

We hope you enjoy the journal and want to hear from you about articles and information you would like to see included in future issues.
