We would like to thank all of you, local and far away, who bought the last issue of the Athenry Journal and for the positive reaction to the new design.

As another year draws to a close, we can reflect on twelve very busy months in Athenry. The town has been subject to a lot of new housing development and, finally, a one-way traffic system is being implemented.

But we also suffered from e.coli in our water, local footpaths are treacherous and we still have poor car-parking facilities. Athenry is a premier Heritage Town yet we have new development being built practically on top of the Priory! Whilst investment in new developments is important to the future of the town, here is a need to balance this with investment in the infrastructure and to protect and enhance the environment. In order to get this balance right we need an effective and unified voice speaking for Athenry.

We live in an historic town with excellent economic potential. People who live here form a very strong community — we can be that effective, unified voice, ensuring that the broader needs of the people of Athenry are presented to the powers that be. Use the ADC as your mouthpiece, contact us with your ideas and expressions of support, we will then look at the best way to get your message delivered. Let the people of Athenry speak for the town together!

Finally, we are coming up to the Festive Season and all at the ADC wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Be safe and have fun.
