We all adore accessories, from the gorgeous sparkly neckpieces that Irish women are so fond of to a cuddly winter scarf to a trendy handbag. These are the pieces that add a splash of colour to our winter attire and an expression of individual personality to our wardrobes. If you are restrained by budget accessories are an inexpensive and prudent purchase to bring your wardrobe right up to the minute.

High Boots

These walked all the catwalks! They allude sexiness. I remember when I bought my first pair about 15 years ago I felt really daring wearing them but they have become a lot more of an essential item in wardrobes now. Don’t be fooled – they are for women of all ages. Some feel that they may not have the legs for them but you will find that there is far more choice available now, for example you can choose a stretch material if you feel that you have larger calves. Flat ones are now very in vogue if you require flat footwear. In keeping with the fashion, choose embellishment like buttons, bows or fringing. If you are a real fashionista it has to be the over-the-knee boot for you. It is a very hot look currently. Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman”- eat your heart out!

Statement Jewellery

This usually means a knock-out necklace and featured on the catwalks of Balenciaga, Lanvin and Givenchy. This is the cheapest and more effective way to update your Winter look in an instant. It is also the easiest (far less shopping around than clothing). For day-wear, the bigger the better. For example, take a jersey or soft knitted dress and update it with a chunky beaded neckpiece. For eveningwear later on in the season, take last year’s little black dress and add a diamante necklace to it.

Satchel Handbags

Satchel handbags are in keeping with the Gothic trend of the minute but practically speaking are very wearable for the average female. These look superb in suede or leather. Look for materials like tweed and crocodile or details like fringing as these are very much ‘on-trend’. This style of handbag is also quite safe and very handy for travelling.
