Athenry Golf Club has started the new Millennium going from strength to strength with numerous recent developments and successes which have firmly put the Club on the Golfing map. Visitors have grown significantly in recent years with an ever-increasing interest from overseas golfers.

With a membership now of 1200 approx. made up of a blend from Oranmore, Carnmore, Turloughmore, Clarinbridge, Galway City and of course Athenry itself there is always a good atmosphere of friendly, typical local banter among its fraternity of sportspeople.

During the year new course developments have enhanced the course to such an extent that National Golfing event organisers are now enquiring about the availability of the course for their National Finals in the upcoming years.

On the playing front the Club has had its most successful year in its 98 year history. The Junior Cup team, made up of handicaps in the range from 5- 9, won the Connacht title for the first time and became the first team from Athenry G.C. to represent the Province at the national finals in Lahinch in September. They performed admirably and were narrowly beaten by the All Ireland Winners, Moate G.C. in the semi-final.
