Bernadette O’Shea is the new Project Development Manager at the Athenry ADC and also a new member of the Athenry community. Of Irish parents, Bernadette came to Ireland two years ago from London on a career break, but never went back! In London,
Bernadette was a Principal Lecturer in Business Information Technology at the University of Westminster Business School where she taught on a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Before coming to Athenry, Bernadette worked on a cross-border post between Cavan and Fermanagh where she was Regional Technology Manager for Cavan County Enterprise Board and the Clinton Peace Centre based in Enniskillen. We asked Bernadette about herself.
What is your greatest strength?
A positive attitude
What is your greatest weakness?
Dry white wine with ice and malteasers
How would you like to be remembered?
With a smile!
What was your most embarrassing moment?
Probably too many — but l remember being about five years of age and the elastic broke in my knickers and l wouldn’t stand up until school was finished
How do you like to relax?
Good wine, good friends, good music
What is your biggest regret?
l don’t have many, but l suppose not taking a year or two to travel the world
What was the happiest day of your life?
When I was born and met my Mum and Dad for the first time.
What period of time would you have liked to be born in?
I am happy in this time, as there are lots of exciting changes.
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Which person (apart from you family members) has had the most influence in your life?
Two people actually – Ben Dolan from Athlone and Barney Devine from Strabane.

People who are arrogant or racist

Repeating everything I say
If you could swap lives with someone, who would you choose and why?
Madonna, because she is bright, talented and rich!

Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Christy Moore and Frankie
What do you miss about Athenry when you are away?
The people, the countryside but definitely not the rain!
The world is about to end, how would you spend your last day on earth?
Lying on a beach in Sardinia
What would you like on your headstone?
We definitely knew she was here!
