Paul Hession rockets to a new National 200M Record

Athenry’s Paul Hession, after several efforts thwarted by following winds, finally made the Irish 200m record his own when he clocked 20.44 for fourth place at the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Sheffield on July 15th. It means that Paul BriZzel’s excellent 20.54 set in 2000 now becomes the number two Irish mark.

Paul now holds the Irish 60m indoors, 100m and 200m records and by all accounts he is not finished yet, and will lower these marks further in the not too distant future.

Paul runs in 200m heats in World Championships in Osaka, Japan on 28th August.

Osaka, a city of 3 million on the southeastern heel of the island of Honshu, will be the scene for the most important event in Paul’s 2007 racing calendar. He is in great form at the present time and he demonstrated this at the Irish national Championships in Santry, Dublin.

Following this he will train for three more weeks in Scotland before flying out to the World Championships, which begin on the 13th of August. His rivals will the cream of the world’s sprinters, but on his current form Paul will not fear any of them. Athenry’s greatest sprinter will endeavour to bring glory to his town and parish.
