Leonardo Di Caprio was ‘King of the World’ for one fleeting moment in film ‘Titanic’ and the same can be said for the students of Presentation College Athenry after their school tour of England and France lately. In one of those freak meetings, one could say a ‘billion to one titanic’ they happened to be in the right place at the right time, walking from the Arc de Triomphe to the Eiffel Tower, in Paris. They came across the French Soccer Federation Building. A few of the students went in to see if there was anything happening. But that day the building was closed to the public, and as they came out disappointed they met a French official with bodyguards. He sees them and says ‘Oh, many sad faces, I have something here to bring a smile to their faces.’ He promptly produced the ‘Coupe de Monde’ – the Soccer World Cup.

The students were ecstatic, when he let them hold the Cup, which was very heavy, and they took pictures of same with the group. It was being transferred to the French Soccer Federation building where it was on display.

The rest of the tour was very successful with visits to the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, Euro Disney Paris, London’s West End, Petticoat Lane and they also took in the Wimbledon v Middlesborough match while in London.

The teachers in charge were; Mr. Coll, Mr. Kenny, Mr. Fitzmaurice and Miss Sice. A student, Emer Treacy, put in a lot of work in organising the tour.
