HURLING 1989 – CARNAUN SCHOOL 11 A-SIDE COUNTY B FINAL

This was a great achievement as it was the school’s first time ever to reach a final. Carnaun could have won, but on the day were unlucky as they failed to score in the first half. Half time score was 1-3 to 0-0 in favour of Castlegar.

Five minutes into the second half, Carnaun scored their first point from a free, taken by Michael Treacy. Then Emmet Caulfield scored a goal. Hopes of a Carnaun comeback appeared to end when a goal was disallowed. From a free, Michael Treacy scored a point, followed by another from play.

With two minutes to go Kevin Quirke got a goal for Carnaun which levelled the scoring. In the dying seconds of the game Castlegar scored their winning point.

The final score was: Castlegar 1—7: Carnaun 2—3.

TEAM: Emmet Morrissey (Captain), Kevin Quirke, Ruairi Gill, Paul Rabbitt, Michael Treacy, Alan Feeney, Noel Hynes, Shane Qualter, Emmet Caulfield, Oliver Morrissey, Raymond Treacy.

Subs: David Caulfield for Raymond Treacy, Francis Coffey, Bernard Ryan, Keith Qualter, Johnny Hynes.
