St Mary’s GAA report April 2007

Results. Football, in the football league A grade Athenry received a walkover from Loughrea. In the B grade Kilconly 2. 14, Athenry 1. 03. In the C grade Athenry were beaten by Annaghdown.

Fixtures: This weekend April 7th/8th Athenry have a home league game against Killimordaly, on Easter Monday Athenry minor hurlers start their championship against Clarinbridge and in the Junior B hurling league Athenry are scheduled to play Killnadema/Leitrim.

Season Ticket: Club members may be interested in a season ticket being issued by Galway Hurling Board for admittance to all club hurling championship games within the county for the year 2007. The cost is €150, it also entitles the holder to purchase a ticket for the 2007 All – Ireland Hurling Final if Galway are contesting the senior final. To apply forward a passport size photograph and a cheque for €150 payable to Galway Hurling Board Secretary, John Fahey, Kilchreest, Loughrea.

Athenry GAA Club Development Draw: At the first draw on Thursday Night April 5th at the Castlegate Hotel, the following six people won one thousand euro each, John Burke Ballyboggan, Dermot Monaghan Athenry, James Lundon Athenry, Aidan Madden Derrydonnell, Martina Harte AIB, Athenry Branch, Declan Mullins Rahard. Fixtures: This weekend Athenry have a senior hurling league game against Castlegar.

Golf Society: There is an outing to Athlone this Saturday April 14th, Tee 10.00 to 11.00, contact 086 / 8211103. Athlone is a fine parkland course and is a good test of golf. We look forward to seeing you there.

Results: Senior Hurling League, Castlegar 1. 18, Athenry 1. 11. Junior B Hurling League, Killnadema/Leitrim 5. 19, Athenry 0. 07. Football. Junior A League Caherlistrane 1. 06, Athenry 1. 05. Junior B League, Athenry 2. 08, Corofin 0. 05. Minor Football league P. J . Dooley’s charges struck for a good win against table toppers Caltra, helped in no small way by a hattrick of goals from full forward Conor Lane. The final score was Athenry 3.06 to 0. 12.

Athenry GAA Club Golf Society: The first outing of the new season took place on Saturday last at a sun drenched Athlone Golf Club, the outing was sponsored by Sean Ward. In first place was Norman Farrell, Jimmy Reilly was in second, in third place was Luke Glynn, fourth was Shane Donohue and fifth was Gilbert McCarthy. The next outing will be to Roscommon Golf Club on Saturday May 5th.

Athenry GAA Club Golf Classic: Plans are now underway for this year’s golf classic which will take place on May 17th, 18th, and 19th at Athenry Golf Club.
