The Saint Vincent DePaul Society has been active in the Parish of Athenry for close on 100 yrs/ It is called the Conference of the Assumption. In the past two years two ladies have joined. Up to this it has been an all-male conference.

The Parish Priest has normally been the Conference Spiritual Advisor. The Conference Members select the President for a three year term who in turn selects a vice president, Secretary and Treasurer.

Our main source of income has been our annual church gate collection, which is held in mid-December in conjunction with the National St. Vincent DePaul Society Fund Raising week.

We are very grateful to all who contribute so generously to this yearly collection. Last year we had a golf outing which proved very successful and we hope to have another one this August. We would like to thank the Athenry Golf Club for giving us the use of their fine facilities and all who took part or helped in any other way to gather out much needed funds.

As a conference we try to improve the lot of the underprivileged in out parish by helping to provide the basic needs be it financial, goods, advice or companionship. We are always ready to listen to requests for help. Please contact any member of the Conference. We can assure you that we will deal with any request fairly and confidentially.
