The stone in the photo was once part of the keystone of an archway in the yard of Castle Ellen House. The initials W P L stand for Walter Peter Lambert who was the owner at the time. Dated 1875 it tells us the year the work on the stables, stable yards and gatehouse was completed as they were built with cut stone where as the house itself apart from the columns at the front was built of rubble stones and mortar.
