The Coldwood girls were triumphant again when they won the Connacht Cross – Country Schools Championships for the second year in succession.

They qualified by winning the County Championship in Renmore. In the Connacht finals in Claremorris, they emerged the leading team in Connacht, with an unbeatable score of 35 points. The team was, Nicola Ruddy (4th), Fiona Page (8th), Krystle Ruddy (9th), Ann Marie Finnerty (14th), Yvonne Kennedy and Maura Donnellan. The team had 62 points to spare over their nearest rivals. Their success was due to trainer Tom Page of Athenry, who worked hard with the girls and encouraged them all the way. In the boys competition, Damien Rooney and Iain Prendergast qualified for the finals. Damien acquitted himself well by finishing 6th. Coldwood worked extremely hard for these competitions and are once again proud to bring the cup back to their school. There was great excitement when Dermot McNamara, B.L.O.E. representative, came to the school to present the cup. Photographs were taken, the whole school shared in the success and is very proud of its team. The Principal Mr. Tom Coffey was especially happy with the team’s success. The girls are hoping to make it three in a row, next year.
